Galmi hospital was founded in 1950. Despite its beginnings with rudimentary infrastructure and no water or electricity, the hospital has grown over the decades, welcoming more medical staff and expanding its services.
In the 1960s, a specialised tuberculosis unit was built, followed by a maternal health centre in the 1980s. The hospital also initiated community health programmes and programmes to combat child malnutrition. Today, it remains a key medical centre in Niger, providing essential care.
