When an encounter inspires collaboration
Salomé, one of our short-term envoys, traveled to Ethiopia for a period of six months. During her stay, she was able to actively participate in various projects, including Korah Kids.
Moved by what she discovered there, she approached SIM Switzerland to present the project and propose a collaboration. SIM Switzerland naturally accepted, especially since SIM International already collaborates with the Korah Kids project.
A local initiative for real transformation
Korah Kids is part of a larger project called Glimmer for Street Kids. It was founded in 2012 by Dr. Abera Legesse, who is originally from Kore and still lives there with his family. His dream is to offer the children of his community a chance to grow up with dignity.
Since then, two programs have been helping to transform the daily lives of many children in Kore:
- Korah Kids, which covers school fees, provides a daily meal and medical care so that children can go to school and, above all, stay there.
- Bridge School, which prepares children who are not in school to enter public school. Already, 35 of them have made this transition, and a new cycle of 18 students is underway.
Why SIM Switzerland is involved
At SIM Switzerland, we believe that a better future is possible when projects are led by the communities themselves. Korah Kids is a wonderful example of this: born locally and led by local actors, this program is making a real difference in the daily lives of children and their families.
